𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧-𝗜𝗫 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗟𝗚𝗨𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗧𝗜-𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.
The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office IX (DOST-IX), through the Provincial Science and Technology Office – Zamboanga del Norte (PSTO-ZDN), continues to strengthen its collaborations with local government units, following successful meetings with the municipalities of Liloy and Baliguian. These engagements 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (STI) to enhance community development and assist LGUs in addressing pressing concerns and priorities.
On 16 January 2025, PSTO-Zamboanga del Norte met with Hon. Roberto L. Uy, Jr., Municipal Mayor of Liloy, to discuss ongoing and proposed projects that support the municipality’s development initiatives. The discussion highlighted innovative projects in education, e-mobility, livelihood, and food processing.
Among the key initiatives being pursued are the establishment of a Planetarium, the establishment of a Smoked Fish Production Facility, and the deployment of DOST-funded Electric Tricycles (e-Trikes) in the municipality.
Meanwhile, on 21 January 2025, PSTO-ZDN met with Hon. Gani A. Esmali, Municipal Mayor of Baliguian. The meeting centered on the partnership between DOST-IX and the LGU in introducing STI-based interventions in the area.
The meeting explored various technologies and innovations to develop local enterprises, identify opportunities for sustainable growth through science-driven initiatives, and address Baliguian’s unique priorities and challenges.
Mayor Uy and Mayor Esmali welcomed the proposed collaboration and expressed their strong support for the partnership.
These engagements with the LGUs emphasize DOST-IX’s commitment to bringing STI to the forefront. The agency remains dedicated to providing solutions and opportunities that empower communities, improve livelihoods, and contribute to economic development and environmental sustainability.
