MABUHAY!
Representatives from the Hellships Memorial Foundation (HMF) formally paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Roberto L. Uy, Jr. and Board Member Venus A. Uy, as part of their official visit to the Municipality of Liloy for the documentation and preservation of the history of the SHINYO MARU.
Following the courtesy call, the HMF team proceeded with interviews and documentary filming, gathering invaluable testimonies from the descendants of the Liloyanon rescuers whose courage and compassion became an enduring testament to humanity in the aftermath of the SHINYO MARU tragedy during the Second World War. As part of their research mission, the Foundation is also undertaking efforts to help determine the exact location of the SHINYO MARU wreck through historical documentation, local accounts, and information shared by members of the community. These firsthand accounts will contribute significantly to the Foundation’s continuing efforts to preserve and share this important chapter of history with a wider audience.
The Local Government Unit of Liloy expresses its gratitude to the Hellships Memorial Foundation, the descendants, local historians, and members of the community for their invaluable participation and support. Through initiatives such as this, the legacy of the SHINYO MARU and the remarkable heroism of the people of Liloy are preserved, ensuring that their stories will continue to educate and inspire generations to come.
